Insights into the ride-hailing industry in 2020

In this report, we provide insights into how the ride-hail industry has fared during 2020. This, of course, includes the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We examine how driver earnings, driver utilization, driver supply, driver incentives, and tipping have fluctuated during the pandemic. Insights include:

• Median per-hour driver earnings decreased more than 40% nationally during certain weeks in March;
• Driver trips per hour decreased 31% during certain weeks in March;
• Although driver supply is rebounding, more than 65% of drivers either switched to delivery or got off the road entirely;
• Ride-hail companies increased their use of incentives to get drivers back on the road by over 160% during certain months in the Summer;
• Ride-hail tipping decreased by more than 40% in March.
