Being a rideshare and delivery driver can be fun, but I think we can all agree that making money is the number one motivator to go out on the road. It’s natural for drivers to want to know how to make the most money in the least amount of time.
We’ve developed the tools to help you maximize your earnings. In this post, we’ll tell you about our newest “When to Drive” feature to help optimize your driving time and make more money. We’ll cover:
- The wisdom of knowing when to drive
- The information you need to drive smarter
- How to access the When to Drive feature
The wisdom of knowing when to drive
Picking up passengers and making deliveries without an efficient strategy can burn valuable time and money. Good driving strategies depend on a driver’s ability to know when traffic is heavy at any given day and time. When you can create a schedule that optimizes your time on the road, almost every day is going to be a good day.
You can experiment on your own by waiting for pings in different areas, or sleuthing out the best trips and biggest tips, but you’ll waste a lot of time and plenty of gas. And, you certainly won’t be earning the most money possible in the least amount of time.
You could also get tripped up by assuming that every day is the same. Not only are the various days of the week different, but demand often varies from one time of the month to the next. Guessing peak times could be a big waste of time and energy.
Knowing when to drive is a key part of being a rideshare or delivery driver. The absolute best thing to base your driving on is actual data.
The information you need to drive smarter
In order to boost your income, you’ll want to determine the most optimal time to drive. You’ll also need precise measurements of your performance. Here are three key pieces of data you’ll want to consider:
- Trips per hour: This stat tells you how many trips you’re completing in a given time period. Ideally, you’ll want to get trips in quick sequences, without too many breaks in between. Yet, you won’t want to have so many trips that you’re driving all over the place for tiny payouts.
- Earnings per trip: Your earnings per trip numbers will tell you how much the average trip is worth to you at a given time of day.
- Earnings per hour: This figure is self-explanatory, but extremely important. It tells you how much you’re making based on the amount of time you spend driving and delivering.
With these three key pieces of information at your disposal, you’ll be able to track your own progress. The When to Drive feature, (located on the Home screen), helps you determine the best times to drive for your gig services by showing you these relevant stats across each day of the week, crowdsourced by thousands of drivers in your city and across the nation.
How to access the When to Drive feature
We’re on a mission to bring the best information to drivers everywhere. The When to Drive feature gives you the information you need to drive and deliver more efficiently and profitably. You’ll easily be able to see which days can earn you the most trips per hour, and which delivery and rideshare services are bringing in the most cash.
When to Drive is currently available only in select cities, but we’ll be rolling it out across the country over the next several months! Because When to Drive’s data is crowdsourced, we can’t always guarantee it will be readily available. However, in most cases, you’ll get more insight than you thought possible.
This versatile tool is available to all Gridwise users. However, only Gridwise Plus members get full access to all available features. As of now, all Gridwise users can only view Trips per Hour stats, while Gridwise Plus drivers have access to see Earnings per Hour and Earnings per Trip. On top of that, Gridwise Plus members can view stats across types of services, as well as stats regarding day of week and time of day.
Here’s how it works:
First, select When to Drive from the Home tab to expand the chart and update various filter options. All users will have access to nationwide stats, but you can also filter results by your current city.
Here are the 4 ways to break down When to Drive:
First select the Stat you want to see. We currently offer three earnings statistics: Earnings per Hour, Trips Per Hour and Earnings Per Trip. Again, Trips per Hour is available to all users and you must be a Gridwise Plus member to access Earnings per Hour and Earnings per Trip.
Select a Category
For each stat, you will have the option to select between gig service categories: rideshare, food, and in some markets, grocery and package.
Set a Period of Time
Select which period of time you wish to see results for. This will be set to “Last Week” by default. Upgrade to Plus to expand your data to see “Last 4 Weeks” or “Last 12 Weeks”
Filter by Time of Day
Lastly, if you are a Plus member, you will have the option to filter results by time of day by selecting “Morning, Afternoon, Evening or Night.”
Keep in mind that When to Drive is powered using crowdsourced data, so sometimes a stat may be unavailable due to insufficient sample size in an effort to ensure a high level of accuracy.
This incredibly useful tool will make your driving life easier and far more profitable!
